We all strive to be healthy and feel better as a whole. And the food choices we make directly affect our successes in striving for better health. While dietary selections are not one size fits all, there are some foods that most of us should avoid.
Below are 5 “Healthy” Foods You Should Avoid:
- SMOOTHIES – Smoothies often contain much more sugar and calories since they are made using much more fruits and vegetables than you’d normally eat. And since they are pulverized, they affect how your body digests them. Since digestion begins with proper chewing, the body does not prepare for proper digestion.
- WHEAT BREAD – Wheat bread sounds great on the surface, but most are prepared with processed grains and therefore do not contain the fiber you’d expect. This can cause spike in blood sugar. Plus, if you’re avoiding gluten, wheat bread contains more of it than white varieties.
- ENERGY BARS – Energy bars can be fantastic options for those who need a quick energy rush, however, energy bars usually contain more sugar and calories than opting for a candy bar.
- COLD CUTS – Although cold cuts are a favorite on the lunch menu, the processed meats are high in sodium. You’re much better off making your own sliced cuts.
- VEGGIE BURGERS – Many people opt for healthier meat alternatives whether they are vegan or simply trying to eat more veggies and consume less meats, but unless you make your own, many frozen varieties are full of unhealthy fillers to make them appear more like ground beef. They usually lack protein, also, since many of the fillers are grains.
